Jabari’s Journey: From Struggle to Strength
Jabari was born on May 24, 2003, in Kanyaima Village, Kisumu West Sub-County, Siaya County. Life took a difficult turn early on. His mother passed away in July 2006, and five years later, he lost his father. Left under the care of his stepmother, a humble dressmaker in the local market, Jabari’s childhood was marked by hardship. The family’s property was taken by uncles who never offered support, and the little income his stepmother earned was not enough to cover food, school fees, or basic needs. It was a life of struggle and uncertainty, until the case was brought to the attention of the assistant chief of Osiri Sub-Location, who referred Jabari to Baba Nyumbani for support.
When Jabari joined Baba Nyumbani on May 20, 2014, he was welcomed into a nurturing micro-community that became a turning point in his life. An athletic and social young boy, he quickly adjusted to his new environment. Through guidance and care, he overcame his short temper, embraced discipline, and focused on his education. Baba Nyumbani provided him with access to quality education, healthcare, and all the essentials he once lacked. His hard work paid off when he successfully passed his KCSE examinations, paving the way for university.
Today, Jabari is pursuing a degree in Nursing, a dream inspired by his desire to ensure others have access to the healthcare he once struggled to receive. He is also a talented rugby player, determined to one day represent Kenya on the national team. Beyond his personal ambitions, Jabari’s heart remains anchored in service — he dreams of supporting his community by providing affordable healthcare and empowering his family economically. He hopes to expand his stepmother’s tailoring business so she can live a stable and fulfilling life.
Jabari was reunified with his family on May 29, 2024, marking another milestone in his remarkable journey. He now visits his grandmother, aunt, and stepmother regularly and supports them with small jobs during university holidays. His homecoming has been filled with love, gratitude, and renewed hope.
Jabari’s story is a powerful testament to what compassion and opportunity can achieve. From a young boy facing despair to a confident young man shaping a brighter future, he embodies the transformative impact of giving. His dream is simple yet profound, to see a community where every child has a chance, and every family can access quality healthcare and live with dignity.
